What is Anaemia?

Anaemia is a health condition characterized by a decrease in the number of red blood cells or a decrease in the amount of haemoglobin in the blood. Haemoglobin is a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to the body’s tissues.

There are several types of anaemia, including iron-deficiency anaemia, vitamin deficiency anaemia, and haemolytic anaemia, bleeding, anaemia of chronic inflammation.

Anaemia can be caused by various factors, including inadequate intake or absorption of essential nutrients like iron , vitamin B12, or folate, chronic diseases that affect the production and, or lifespan of red blood cells, and blood loss due to menstruation, injury, or surgery.

The symptoms of anaemia can vary depending on the underlying cause, but common symptoms include fatigue, weakness, pale skin, shortness of breath, dizziness, and rapid heartbeat.
